Do some of your students struggle to pick up on subtle linguistic cues, decipher tricky wording, or follow a series of oral and written directions? Challenges in these areas can make it difficult to complete all parts of an assignment, navigate multistep tasks, or interpret the nuanced language often found in multiple-choice tests. These difficulties are especially common among students with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities—but the truth is, every learner benefits from strengthening these skills.

When students learn to slow down, analyze phrasing, and interpret instructions accurately, they gain confidence across all academic areas. So how can we nurture these important abilities while still keeping lessons engaging and energizing?
The answer lies in weaving structured practice with a healthy dose of play. By transforming language processing into a game-like experience, we can motivate students, reduce frustration, and help them build essential receptive and expressive language skills—all while having fun.
With the holiday season around the corner, many students love to get into the spirit, and providing festive activities can be entertaining and motivating. My Thanksgiving and Christmas Following Directions Activities are part of my Following Directions Holiday Bundle that celebrates Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, St Patrick's Day, and Valentine's Day.
